Results; inflammation, swelling, discharge, foreign body, abscess formation and visual impairment. These disorders can be unilateral or bilateral. It is often seen with diseases that affect other organs as well.
Parrot Eye Inflammation
It accompanies lung and systemic infections. Often there is redness and swelling. The most common causes in parrots are bacterial infection, allergic reaction, trauma and vitamin A deficiency. If it has developed due to systemic infection, clinical signs of that infection occur. Laboratory tests and the cause are investigated. Supportive therapy is started. Antibiotics are given for the cause. More attention is paid to hygiene rules.
Parrot Eye Swelling and Abscess
Eye abscesses are encountered in the inner and outer regions and in the tear duct. All kinds of infectious agents can cause an abscess in the eye. Intraocular tumor and sinusitis can also cause swelling in the eye. Supportive treatment is given. Antibiotic ointment is used. The parrot is relieved by evacuating the abscess outside the eye and disconnected from it, with a syringe. The causative agent is determined by the examinations to be made from the contents of the abscess and treated for it. If it is due to sinusitis, nasal congestion is cleared by washing. In abscesses caused by lacrimal duct obstruction, the duct is tried to be opened by applying pressure. If there is tumor formation, surgical treatment is applied.
Intraocular Abnormalities in Parrots
Cataracts, lens dislocation, retinal diseases, eye pressure and intraocular tumors. Amazon parrots, cockatoos, gray parrots, and lovebirdsare often caused by viral infection and trauma. Supportive treatment is applied. Antibiotic ointment is applied. If there is a tumor, surgical intervention is performed.
Blindness in a Parrot
It mostly occurs in parrots due to trauma, tumors, lead and pesticide poisoning, liver disease and brain inflammation. If it occurs after food intake, brain damage due to liver inflammation should be considered. Supportive and cause-oriented treatment is applied. General cleaning rules are observed.
